The Braidwood Housing Project has received the funding it needs to move forward.
The provincial government has approved $3-million in capital funding for the affordable housing project.
The M’aKola Housing Society, in partnership with the Wachiay Friendship Centre, will receive the monies for the 34-unit building in Courtenay.
Wachiay spokesperson Roger Kishi says the project is a long-time coming.
Comox Valley MLA Don McRae says this is huge for the city of Courtenay, and the whole Comox Valley. However, he notes there is still more work to do to solve the issue of homelessness in the community.
Construction is set to begin next summer, and wrap up in the summer of 2018.
