Changes to employment insurance wait period

The Employment Insurance waiting period will be shortened from two weeks to one week beginning this month. The Federal Government says shortening the waiting period is expected to ease the financial strain for EI claimants.

The move is expected to cost an additional $650-million. The reduction of the waiting period applies to all types of EI benefits.
