The Coastal Fire Centre is winding down operations after a fairly uneventful forest fire season, at least in our neck of the woods. That from spokesperson Donna McPherson who says fire starts were actually down this year.

Donna McPherson says there are still two hot spots on the North Island, that they’ll be keeping close tabs on throughout the winter.

McPherson says residents in the region played a major role in keeping forest fires in check, in being extremely cautious in one of the the driest periods on record.
