Raven mine application soon to be in hands of regulators

A spokesperson for CoalWatch Comox Valley has told Goat News it appears Compliance Coal is set to re-submit their application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate, for their proposed controversial valley Raven Coal Mine project in the next few weeks. That from the John Snyder, president of the CoalWatch Comox Valley Society.

An earlier application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate from Compliance Coal, to the BC Environmental Assessment Office, and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, back in May of 2013, was rejected on the basis all the required information was not included. Steve Ellis, the President of Compliance Coal, confirms tonight the company is set to re-apply shortly, but preferred not to go on tape for our news broadcast.

Meanwhile John Snyder of CoalWatch Comox Valley comments on this application process.

Kind of a technical process here, but if the evaluation of the Application finds the deficiencies have been fully dealt with, that will set the stage for the Environmental Assessment process to move from the Pre-Application stage, to the 180 day Application Review Stage. There is major opposition to this project, on various concerns including the impacts on groundwater, and on the waters of Baynes Sound.
