19 Wing rescues Russian captain off crippled ship

19 Wing Comox was part of the operation that involved a Russian tanker losing power near Haida Gwaii, as 442 Squadron helped rescue the Captain of the ship, who was injured.

Captain Trevor Reid from the base says a Cormorant helicopter was sent out, joined by a Buffalo aircraft.

The ship, which suffered mechanical problems, was towed to Prince Rupert where it’s currently undergoing repairs.

Captain Reid adds there’s no update on the status of the Captain, however, he was in stable condition when hoisted off the ship.
