Standing room only for Cumberland All Candidates Forum

It was a full house at the Cumberland Cultural Centre tonight for An All Candidates forum with over two hundred locals showing up to hear what the eight candidates for Cumberland Village Council had to say on various community issues. Goat News checked in with some of those who packed the room, asking why they took the time to show up, and what sort of issues are they concerned about, with the 2014 Municipal Election just around the corner.

Among the major issues at the Cumberland Forum, balancing social, economic and environmental issues, infrastructure concerns, questions linked to housing and homelessness, the need for accessible facilties and the lack of movement in developing the lands near the Cumberland Interchange, along with tourism promotion and the preservation of local heritage values. There are Four Council seats up for grabs, and local Mayor Leslie Baird is in by acclamation, and she was pleased with the massive turnout.

Meaghan Cursons is one of the key event organizers with Cumberland Matters.

The 2014 Municipal Election is set for Saturday November 15.
