The forecast looks promising for the next week to ten days. We currently do not have enough snow on the ground to begin winter operations for the 2014.15 season this weekend. We will be looking to the skies for the snow to start falling and accumulating in the next few days. The good news is that copious amounts of snow can always fall on Mount Washington in a very short period of time.
We will announce our new start date as soon as we have enough snow to open.

How much snow do you need to open?
There is no set amount; it depends on the type of snow that falls, such as dry and fluffy vs. heavy and wet, as well as the location it falls on, such as a steep slope vs. a beginner area.
How much time do you need to open once the snow starts flying?
With very short notice mountain crews will be out preparing for opening day. Typically, we work on 48 hours’ notice to open. Do you have snowmaking?
No, we do not have snowmaking. During a typical winter season, we average 1150cm of snow and do not require snowmaking. From time to time, it would have been great to have snowmaking to assist with getting open. We have explored installing a snowmaking system and continue to look at our options.
What about the staff that you have hired?
We are so excited about the great people that return year after year and we are particularly excited about the group of new staff that have come on board with us this season. We have completed training, and they, like the public, are now waiting for the Resort to get going.
