Another scam hits the valley-targetting the elderly

The Comox Valley RCMP are warning the public of a theft report that has taken place in the valley in the recent week. It was reported that a woman had her MasterCard stolen and used to remove money on a cash advance.

It appears that two women, working together, find a lone elderly person and then get close enough at the till to see the person enter their PIN code into the businesses debit machine. They then move past the person while pick pocketing them and taking the wallet, all the while blocking other customers view with large shawls or scarves.

Once they have the card and the PIN they go to the nearest banking institution and withdrawal funds on the card.
There have been other reports of similar thefts on Vancouver Island.

If you know who has committed this crime you are asked to contact Cst. S. Trevor of the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321 or if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
