The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s (VIJHL) Comox Valley Glacier Kings have a new bench leader.

Paul Mugford has replaced Joey Ewing as the team’s head coach. Mugford’s first game was on Saturday, September 23rd in a 10-3 loss against the Saanich Braves.

According to a team statement, Ewing’s departure was due to a bevvy of other jobs and commitments that took him away from the team.

Mugford has a wealth of hockey experience in the Valley. He played for a few years at the minor and Junior B levels in the region. Mugford has over 3 decades of experience coaching minor hockey teams on Vancouver Island.

He last coached the Comox Valley Chiefs midget A team for 3 seasons.

Mugford will try to lead the Glacier Kings back up in the rankings. The team is currently last in the North Division with a record of 1-5. The Glacier Kings continue the season with an away game on Wednesday against the South Division-leading Westshore Wolves.
