Fighting for Abbeyfield House

A Comox Valley-based group is looking to stop the permanent closure of a low-income seniors housing facility.

The Board of Abbeyfield House shut down operations at the end of last month. However, there’s still hope for the facility.

Jennifer Pass is one of the many advocating for the Board to give the facility another shot.

“I think it is really important that as a community we galvanize around this issue, that we really recognize the importance of giving it another try – giving Abbeyfield another try with independent seniors and good policies and a good relationship with Island Health and the various authorities. We have a lot of support from local politicians and a lot of people, and we do believe this is a very important issue for the Comox Valley.”

A support rally was held Thursday morning in front of the Courtenay court-house. Another demonstration of support is set to be held on Saturday at 10 AM at 5th Street and Cliffe Avenue.
