Be Conscious of What Fish You Buy

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the Marine Stewardship Council is encouraging Canadians to consume traceable and sustainable seafoods.

Professional Chef and Council spokesperson Charlotte Langley says it’s important people learn about and understand the value of a healthy marine environment for all sea creatures to live in.

“The more we can contribute to this global challenge, the better. Fish is a renewable resource, if we manage it porperly.”

Langley notes a few ways consumers can contribute to this is buying fish products from legitimate sources.

“When you make the choice to engage in sustainable seafood (wild or frozen), you know it’s coming from a certain source based on the certification level authorized by MSC.

Lots of other places say they’re sustainable, but not many can say they are offering certified and sustainable seafood products.”
