The Safety Benefits of Winter Tires

Winter tires are now needed to drive on certain BC roads.

ICBC’s Joanna Linsangan says some highways on Vancouver Island require you to have these tires, as well as many on the Mainland.

She says there are many pros to installing winter tires on your vehicle.

“All-seasons [tires] do lose their grip as soon as we hit below 7 degrees. That’s because the rubber that’s used for all-season tires and summer tires actually gets harder. Winter tires are much more beneficial and much more flexible in winter weather given the material they do use and they also provide better grip for snowy and icy surfaces.”

Linsangan says the Corporation recommends that drivers install 4 winter tires instead of just 2.
