Firefighters across Canada are educating residents about fire safety as part of Fire Prevention Week.
Courtenay Fire’s Kurt MacDonald says the event has a special theme this year of Every Second Counts, Plan Two Ways Out.
“The message that they’re trying to make people aware of is that if you are in your home and you do have a fire, it’s important to be able to have a couple of ways out because if you only have one and the fire blocks it, you’re going to be in trouble.”
MacDonald says the event has been going on for many years across the country.
Once again this year, the Courtenay has teamed up with Domino’s Pizza for the occasion, where residents with working smoke alarms could be rewarded with free pizza. For further details about Fire Prevention Week, visit nfpa.org/fire-prevention-week.
