Cumberland Brewery to Install New Canopy

The Cumberland Brewing Company is set to install a $45,000 canopy above its existing patio next month.

The local brewery is also planning to install three new outdoor heaters for the colder winter season.

Company co-owner and co-founder Darren Adam says the canopy is to provide shelter from the rain while allowing guests to be outside all year long. Because the Brewery is on Dunsmuir Avenue in Cumberland, which is a designated heritage area, the company had to apply for a Heritage Alteration Permit (HAP) to install the canopy.

The Village of Cumberland granted the HAP at its meeting this week. However, the Village will not be paying for the canopy.

The permit was the third one the brewery has applied for since opening in December of 2014.
