Arrest in local hit and run!

An arrest has been made in relation to the fatal hit and run collision that claimed the life of 48 year old Paul Bally on December 15th, 2014.

Acting on a tip received from the public, Comox Valley RCMP officers attended a property in the Comox Valley area last night (December 18th, 2014). A 2003 Ford F350 truck was located on the property and seized for further examination.

A 55 year old Comox Valley man was arrested at 8:00 pm last night, and taken into police custody. He is expected to appear in Courtenay Provincial Court today (December 18th, 2014), on charges related to failing to remain at the scene of an accident. As he has not been formally charged, his identity cannot be released at this time.

“On behalf of our investigative team, I would like to thank the public for their support and assistance with this investigation”, states Inspector Tim Walton, the officer in charge of the Comox Valley RCMP. “Our team remains committed to completing a thorough investigation of all the circumstances surrounding this collision, bringing much needed answers to Paul’s grieving family.”

Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services and family liaison officers are actively supporting Paul’s family. News of this arrest was shared with them earlier today. Media are asked to respect the family’s privacy at this very difficult time.

RCMP Sergeant Mark Whitworth…

Multiple RCMP resources remain committed to this ongoing investigation, including RCMP North Island Traffic Services, the Comox Valley RCMP General Investigation Section, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the RCMP Collision Analyst/Reconstructionist. The Island District RCMP Tactical Troop and Air Services helicopter have been involved in the days since this collision.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further details will be released.
