Car Crashes Through Courtenay Restaurant

Customers may think again about sitting by the window after a car crashed through the Ricky’s Restaurant in Courtenay Tuesday morning.

Courtenay Fire’s Kurt MacDonald says they received a call at about 10:30 AM about a motor vehicle accident at the Ryan Road restaurant.

“When we arrived on scene, we found that a vehicle had jumped the curb and actually crashed into the window of the restaurant, causing the glass to break. There were people sitting at the booth right in front of where the vehicle struck the building. Fortunately, they weren’t hurt. None of the glass cut them or anything like that.”

MacDonald says there were also no injuries to the driver or other customers at the restaurant. The department cleaned up the broken glass and secured the scene until Comox Valley RCMP arrived.

He says it looks like the driver’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, causing the car to crash into the building.
