NDP Fulfills Promise to Freeze Hydro Rates

The provincial NDP says it’s delivered on its promise to freeze BC Hydro rates.

Last year, BC Hydro applied for three years of increases with a 3% increase planned for next year.

That request is being pulled back.

The provincial government says the rate freeze will give it the time to do a comprehensive review of BC Hydro to find changes and cost savings.

BC Hydro rates have gone up by more than 24% in the last four years, and by more than 70% since 2001.
