COURTENAY, B.C.- The Everybody Deserves a Smile (EDAS) campaign is getting set to deliver care packages to the less fortunate.
The annual program has Comox Valley elementary school students putting packages together for people living on the streets in the community, across Vancouver Island and the lower mainland.
Students hand paint the bags and collect items from residents. Donations include toques, scarves, wool socks and toothbrushes.
Founder Chantal Stefan said right now, they’re very much in need of mittens. The original donation drop-off deadline was slated for Monday, December 11th, but that’s been extended to Wednesday, December 13th.
There are a number of drop-off locations, with Ecole Puntledge Park Elementary serving as the host school. Stefan is a teacher there.
Other drop-offs include the Comox Community Centre, Lewis Centre, Duduza Bed and Bath, the Florence Filberg Centre, Re/Max Courtenay, Cumberland’s Seeds Food Market and the Courtenay library. Cash donations can be made payable to EDAS.

Local deliveries will be made this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with deliveries across the Island happening Monday. Stefan said that they will be dropping off care packages in Vancouver’s East Hastings neighbourhood on December 23rd.
