Courtenay man dead after being found in ditch

COURTENAY, B.C.- A 67 year old man from Courtenay has died after an apparent cycling incident Wednesday evening.

In a media release, Comox Valley RCMP Constable Rob Gardner said the detachment responded to the 2000 block of Left Road in Courtenay.

Gardner said a cyclist had been found in a ditch by someone passing by.

The man was rushed to hospital by BC Ambulance Service, but was pronounced deceased on arrival.

The RCMP’s General Investigation Section is looking into the matter, along with the BC Coroner Service and the Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service.

Speaking with 98.9 the Goat, Gardner said he could not disclose how the man ended up in the ditch, as the investigation is still in its early stages.

Police are asking any witnesses that might have seen the man riding his bike in the area Wednesday evening to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and cite file number 2018-140.
