Donation box robbed at Powell River Library

POWELL RIVER, B.C.- Police are investigating after a break-in at the regional library.

Constable Ron Palmquist said they received a report in the early hours of January 9th.

Loose change was stolen from the area of the checkout desk at the Alberni Street building.

Palmquist said loose change was also taken from a donation box that was at the site.

He noted that so far, no arrests have been made.

“The Powell River RCMP wish to remind the public to remain vigilant, as they are the eyes and ears of our community,” he said.

“Break and enters to public buildings are somewhat rare in Powell River.”

Palmquist said it was upsetting that a public space like the library would be broken into.

However, the RCMP is treating this like any other break-in case.

“The library being broken into is just like any other place in town, we take this very seriously. We are working tirelessly trying to come to a positive conclusion at the end of the investigation.”

Palmquist said a description of a possible suspect was not available. No other items were reported stolen from the library.

Anyone with further details is asked to call the Powell River RCMP or CrimeStoppers.
