Two attempted robberies fought off in Courtenay

COURTENAY, B.C- Two would-be robbers were left empty handed in Courtenay last night.

According to the Comox Valley RCMP, two incidents were reported yesterday evening. The first occurred around 6:10 p.m. in the 4700 block of Headquarters Road, after a male suspect entered a business demanding money.

After struggling with the employees briefly, the man fled empty handed. He was described as a white male, in his mid to late 20’s. He stood five feet and nine inches tall, and weighed around 170 pounds.

He had been wearing darker clothing, gloves, and a balaclava.

The second incident occurred around 11:03 p.m. in the parking lot of a local business along Hunt Road, in the 300 block. A man had approached a resident as they were getting into their vehicle, demanding money. According to police, the victim fended off the man as he attempted to get into their vehicle, later fleeing.

The suspect was described as being five feet and ten inches in height, weighing around 170 pounds. He had been wearing a patterned jacket, and a balaclava.

Police are reminding the public to not put up a fight if approached by a robber.

“The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind everyone, do not struggle with, or put up a fight during these events,” said Constable Rob Garder, spokesperson for the detachment.

“Do as you are told, and call 911 as soon as you can.  Luckily no one was hurt in either of these incidents.”

Police are now attempting to determine if these incidents are related.
