Mount Washington reopens after weekend closure

COURTENAY, B.C.- After a massive dumping of snow and rough winter conditions caused Mount Washington to close down on Sunday, the resort has been reopened.

On Saturday, traffic was severely stalled because of the conditions. RCMP informed 98.9 the Goat that trees had fallen down along the Strathcona Parkway.

Crews have since cleaned up the road, and the alpine resort is open for operations as of this morning.

“Over the weekend, we had 125 centimetres of new snow,” said Sheila Rivers, a spokesperson for Mount Washington.

“Right now, we have the Hawk (6ix Pack Chairlift) running, Whiskey Jack and one of our magic carpets.”

She noted that they’re grooving and fixing up the Nordic trails, which should be ready for operations on Tuesday.

“It’s sunny, we have got amazing snow right now, so just head on up.”

Rivers said the road up to Mount Washington is clear for drivers coming up and going down the mountain.
