Ferries keeping 8 p.m. sailing from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay

SECHELT, B.C.- Good news for ferry users traveling between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay.

According to the Northern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee (NSCFAC), the 8:00 p.m. sailing that has been running out of Earls Cove since early this year, will remain in effect after Feb. 5th.

That scheduled sailing had previously run at 7:30, but due to complaints from customers making a connection from Horseshoe Bay to Earls Cove, the time was adjusted on Jan. 3rd.

The shift was originally just set to be in effect until Feb. 5th, but now, the 8:00 p.m. sailing from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay will be a permanent sailing on the schedule.

The NSCFAC addressed other potential connection issues in a statement on their Facebook page.

“BCF (Ferries) realizes that those customers taking this 8 p.m. sailing and wishing to catch the 9:20 p.m. (Mon-Fri) route 18 sailing to Texada (out of Powell River) will find the connection tight,” it read.

“However, these customers are already identifying themselves to the steward, and this allows the ship to communicate with the NIP (North Island Princess vessel) – allowing them to understand how many vehicles will be headed for Westview (Powell River). The NIP will be able to generally hold to allow those customers to get home.”

The statement also noted that the Saturday and Sunday sailing out of Westview to Texada Island’s Blubber Bay terminal is at 9:45 p.m. instead of the 9:20 p.m. sailing that runs Monday through Friday, providing much more time to make the connection on weekends.
