COURTENAY, B.C- Impaired drivers and thefts were the focus of police attention in recent days.
According to the latest news bulletin from the Comox Valley RCMP, a total of eight impaired drivers were “taken off the streets” in the area from Feb.20 to Feb.26. Seven of the drivers were immediately given 90 day roadside prohibitions, while one driver was given a prohibition for three days.
The drivers given 90 day prohibitions had their vehicles impounded.
In addition to the impaired drivers, a break and enter was reported on Feb 20, after a work trailer along Comox Avenue was broken into. The trailer had been parked in the 1900 block of the route, and several tools were stolen.
A break and enter to a Valley residence was reported on Feb.21. The home was in the 6100 block of Island Highway South, and had suffered previous break-ins prior to the latest incident. Sporting goods, which included a bow, were taken in the theft.
The North Island Integrated Forensic Identification Section is assisting in that investigation.
Lastly, officers conducting speed enforcement along Highway 19 between Courtenay and Union Bay on Feb 22 found a car going 165km per hour in the 120 per hour zone. The driver was stopped, issued a speeding ticket, and had their vehicle impounded.
