Local RCMP looking for input on police priorities

COURTENAY, B.C- The Comox Valley’s RCMP detachment wants to know what their priorities should be.

Two weeks from now, the detachment will be holding their annual community consultation, looking to get feedback from the community about their policing priorities for the next two years. A symposium on robbery prevention will be held at the same time.

The symposium will focus on two areas for businesses to consider, according to a release from the detachment. The first is physical changes, such as sight lines and decoy money, and the second is changes in procedure, such as opening and closing times and money handling.

The event is scheduled for March 21, at the K’omoks First Nation Band Hall, from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

“With a noticeable increase of robberies in the Valley, we thought it would be a good time to help educate local businesses, to ensure the safety of their employees and customers’ stated Comox Valley RCMP Media relations officer Cst Rob Gardner, in the news release.

“This is also the time of the year Inspector Walton has an open community consultation, when he wants to hear from the residents about what we are doing right or wrong and what they’d like to see us doing for them.”

Seating will be limited down to two people per businesses. Interested businesses must send an e-mail to [email protected]. If seating is full, the symposium will be held again in the future.
