RCMP seeking speeding motorcyclist

COURTENAY, B.C- The Comox Valley RCMP are looking for a speeder.

According to a news release issued by the detachment, an officer in the Municipal Traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement along Highway 19a in Courtenay on Feb. 12, near the intersection of the highway with Muir Road.

While present, the officer spotted a speeding motorcycle heading north on the highway, traveling at 86 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone. While the officer attempted to stop the bike, the rider sped off “at a high rate of speed”.

A photo of the rider and their bike has since been issued, and is visible at the top of this article.

Two other speeding incidents took place over the past six days. The first was on Mar. 10, when an officer saw a vehicle speeding in Courtenay on Highway 19a in the early morning. It was stopped, and found to have been traveling 106 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone. The driver received a ticket for excessive speeding and their vehicle was impounded.

A similar incident occurred on Mar. 11, when an officer stopped a vehicle along Hamm Road in Black Creek. The vehicle was found to have been traveling at 125 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone. An excessive speeding ticket was given to the driver, and their vehicle was impounded.

Multiple break and enters were reported to the RCMP over the past few days as well. The first was in Black Creek, on Mar. 8. An unknown person or multiple people went to a property in the 7800 block of Island Highway North, and stole a Lincoln welder and Miller plasma cutter from a shop structure.

On Mar. 9, a report of a possible break and enter to a business in the 1600 block of Ryan Road East in Courtenay was reported. A window on the property was cracked, which was believed to be from someone trying to pry it open. The building wasn’t entered.

Lastly, on Mar. 12 there was a break and enter to a building in the 2000 block of Wallace Avenue in Comox. Entrance was gained to the property, with five guitars and a DVD player being taken. One guitar has since been recovered, with the detachment’s Integrated Forensic Identification Unit assisting with the investigation.
