Elementary school students seeking bike lane on Lake Trail

COURTENAY, B.C- A student delegation will be asking city councilors to think of a bike path tonight.

The students will be coming from Arden Elementary, and will appear at tonight’s meeting of city council in Courtenay set for 4 p.m.

According to a news release from School District 71, the students are part of the “Arden Ambassadors”, and they’re pitching a side walk and bike lane on Lake Trail Road.

The city is currently seeking input on transportation concerns as part of “Connecting Courtenay”, a master plan meant to lay out the next 20 years of infrastructure in the community’s transportation network.

“Arden Ambassadors who represent the entire school population want to share their input and concerns in order to make Lake Trail Road safer for bicyclist and pedestrians,” read the release.

“To gather information regarding vehicle traffic, these students stood outside with clipboards in hand and counted the number of motorist commuting along the road and traveling to the school during morning drop off and afternoon pick-up.”

The student’s findings will be used during their presentation this evening.
