MT.WASHINGTON, B.C- A rollover on Mount Washington left one man dead near midnight last night.
According to Sergeant Craig Blanchard, the unit commander of the North Island Traffic Services, the crash occurred around 11:53 p.m., along Strathcona Parkway, 30 metres away from the intersection with Nordic Drive.
A pickup truck was heading down the hill, when it entered into the wrong lane and hit a snowbank on the corner, flipping onto the road. The male driver, who was in his 30’s, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and died from his injuries on scene.
One male passenger and one female passenger were taken to hospital for minor injuries. Speed, lack of seatbelts being worn, and the possibility of alcohol being involved are all being investigated by police in the wake of the crash.
The passengers have been released from hospital. Police believe that they were working and living in the area.
The Comox Valley RCMP, Oyster River Fire Department, and Traffic Services out of Campbell River all responded to the scene.
