Thunderstorms and hail forecast for eastern Vancouver Island

COMOX, B.C- A period of unsettled weather is coming to the east end of Vancouver Island.

According to a special weather statement from Enviroment Canada, a Pacific cold front is headed towards the South Coast this morning, bringing rain for most areas. After the cold front moves through, temperatures will be dropping and the rain will be turning to snow over higher urban communities and inland regions.

On higher terrain, a few centimetres of snow accumulation is possible.

“Thunderstorms producing small hail are also possible this afternoon near Vancouver Island, and again on Friday throughout the region, as an unseasonably cold pool of air in the upper atmosphere settles in,” read the statement.

The statement is in effect for the following areas;

  • East Vancouver Island – Courtenay to Campbell River
  • East Vancouver Island – Duncan to Nanaimo
  • East Vancouver Island – Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay
