Knight Road narrowing in near future

COMOX, B.C- One of the main roads to the Comox Valley’s airport is going to be smaller in April.

Due to ongoing work on the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CVRD) Hudson Trunk sewer line, a section of Knight Road is going to be down to one lane at the end of March and into late April.

“Access for local residents and businesses will be maintained, but traffic delays should be expected,” read an advisory from the district.

“Drivers using this route to pass through are encouraged to use alternate routes, including Ryan Road/Military Row and Pritchard Road.”

The Hudson line is meant to link neighbourhoods in northeastern Courtenay to the Valley’s sewage treatment plant on Brent Road, bypassing the Courtenay Pump Station.

The Hudson Trunk regional sewer line is an important improvement for the sustainability of the Comox Valley Regional District’s sewer service. It will directly connect neighbourhoods in northeast Courtenay to the sewage treatment plant (the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre) on Brent Road, bypassing the Courtenay Pump Station.

“Completion of this new line is a very important improvement for the region’s sewer service,” said Charlie Gore, the CVRD’s Manager of Capital Projects, in the release.

“We are working to divert flow away from the Courtenay Pump Station and create capacity for future growth in the community.”

Construction on the line is expected to be done by early May.
