5th Street bridge to close lanes next week

COURTENAY, B.C. – The 5th Street bridge in Courtenay will see some single-lane closures for some maintenance work next week.

Crews will be washing the bridge overnight on Thursday, April 26 until the morning of Friday, April 27. A notice from the city said cleaning the bridge helps extend its life, removes salt and sand and reduces the chances of corrosion.

Residents are being advised to expect single-lane alternating traffic on the bridge starting at 9:00 p.m. and continuing until 7:00 a.m. Traffic control personnel will be on scene to help direct traffic.

The city said the work is happening overnight to reduce impacts to traffic on the popular downtown route. Both sidewalks will be open to the public.
