Oyster River department to implement fire ban

OYSTER RIVER, B.C. – The Oyster River Fire Department has announced that they will be putting a fire ban in place later tonight.

A tweet from the department stated that the ban comes into effect at midnight for its fire protection area. The ban includes tiki torches and Chinese lanterns, but does not include campfires.

Campers who want to enjoy a fire must contain it to less than 50 cm (20 inches) in diameter, according to the department’s announcement.

For those who light a campfire, a means to extinguish it must be nearby, whether it be something like a hose or bucket of water.

The department’s ban follows a Category Two burn ban that was put in place by the Coastal Fire Centre on Friday, May 18.
