Gun and drugs seized by police during lake patrol

COURTENAY, B.C- A roadside stop near Comox Lake led to a court date for a motorist on Saturday.

According to a news release from the Comox Valley RCMP, an officer from the detachment was conducting patrols for impaired drivers along Colake Road around 8:45 p.m.

The officer stopped a male driver, who was arrested for driving while prohibited. As a result of the arrest, a loaded handgun and what were suspected to be illicit drugs were seized.

“Thanks to the diligence and quick thinking police officer, another gun is off our streets” said Constable Monika Terragni, the detachment spokesperson.

“A seemingly routine traffic stop can quickly evolve into a significant investigation.”

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and the man has been released with a court date pending.

The man’s name was not released by the RCMP.
