COURTENAY, B.C- The Comox Valley RCMP offered ducks a helping hand in Black Creek last week.
According to a news bulletin from the detachment, police were called on May 24 to Black Creek after a person had seen a mother duck and her ducklings running along the road in the area and became concerned they would cause a car accident.
An officer went to the area, and blocked traffic to let the ducks cross the road.
In other files, officers responded to vandalism and impaired driving.
One of the incidents took place on May 22, after a woman kicked the front glass of a business along 5th Street in Courtenay. The glass broke after being kicked, and the woman suffered an injury to her leg. When police arrived, she was arrested and eventually obtained medical treatment.
She now has a court date after being released by police.
On May 25, a phone was stolen from a vehicle parked at a local gas station. The occupant of the vehicle had been inside paying for snacks when the theft took place. The bulletin reminded residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times.
The following day, a vehicle caught the attention of an officer out doing traffic enforcement.
“The driver of the vehicle was allegedly speeding, stopped at a green light and then put a signal light on without turning,” read the bulletin,
“The officer stopped the car and an impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation was started. It was found that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. A 90 day immediate roadside prohibition was served, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.”
Last weekend, a school bus in the 2000 block of Wallace Avenue in Comox was vandalized with a fire extinguisher after someone got inside through a broken window.
