COURTENAY, B.C- Comox Valley residents can use more water this week.
Last week, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) upped their water restriction level to Stage 3, due to maintenance work on BC Hydro facilities along the Puntledge River.
The work made it necessary for the CVRD to change their water intake system over to the emergency equipment, and the district asked residents to conserve water during the maintenance work.
With the maintenance work now concluded, the restrictions are now relaxed down to Stage 1.

According to Mike Herschmiller, the manager of water services for the CVRD, consumption did go down during the five-day maintenance period.
“We thank people for following the restrictions, and getting us through that period,” said Herschmiller.
The CVRD and BC Hydro are monitoring the Valley’s water levels, and Herschmiller expected that things will be fine for the foreseeable future. He stated that a decent snowpack is still up in the mountains, and more water was going into Comox Lake than going out.

CVRD restrictions apply to the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay, and the Sandwick, Arden, Comox Valley, England Road, Marsden/Camco and Greaves Crescent Water Local Service Areas.
