COURTENAY, B.C. – Two sections of 17th Street in Courtenay will be repaved next week. The city said this will result in road closures and detours.
Starting Monday, June 25, 17th Street from Fitzgerald to McPhee Avenue will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. A section of Lewis Avenue, south of 17th Street will also be closed.
Detours will be set up around the work zone. The intersection at 17th Street and Fitzgerald will remain open during the full road closure. That work is scheduled to be completed by Thursday, June 28.
Work is also scheduled for the beginning of July. Overnight repaving will take place from Tuesday, July 3 to Thursday, July 5 between Cliffe and Fitzgerald Avenue. That work is set for 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day.
The city said once that paving starts, the road will see intermittent lane closures and single-lane alternating traffic during construction hours.
During the repairs, the existing pavement surface will be grounded up, removed and replaced with new asphalt.
The project is a part of the city’s long-range asset management plan. Questions or concerns can be directed to the Public Works Department at (250) 338-1525.
