COURTENAY, B.C. – Next Sunday marks Canada’s 151st birthday, and the City of Courtenay is the Comox Valley’s hub for all the celebrations.
Activities begin on June 30th as part of the Night Before Celebration at Lewis Park.
Live music is on the schedule, from Cubano Band – Brisas Del Palmar, Rebel Heart, Cassies Family and Time Well Wasted. There’s also going to be a performance from the Indigenous Women Sharing Society.
On Sunday, July 1st, residents can check out the 33rd annual Kinsmen Club pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the corner of 5th Street and England Avenue.
The Comox Valley Concert Band will perform outside the Sid Williams Theatre in Civic Square from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Residents can also check out the kids’ bike decorating contest at Harmston Park.
The Horseshoe Club tournament runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lewis Park, and the 5th Street Mile race starts at 6th Street beside Harmston Park at 9:30 a.m.
The “Imagine” Canada Day parade begins at 10:00 a.m. This year will see a new parade route due to the ongoing Complete Streets Project on 5th Street.
The parade will bypass the top of 5th Street and start down 5th at Fitzgerald, with floats setting up at 6th Street and Harmston Avenue.

Events set to take place following the parade include live music, food vendors and an assortment of family activities at Lewis and Simms Park and the Native Sons Hall, including the annual Ducky 500 race from the Rotary Club of Comox.
