The Hudson Trunk sewer line construction project is officially complete.
The new waste pipe, installed in the Knight Road/Idiens Way area, increases capacity in the CVRD’s sewer service by redirecting flows from east Courtenay directly to the sewage treatment plant rather than through the current Courtenay pump station.
According to the CVRD, the recently completed project will allow “opportunities for residential growth, reduced pressure on existing infrastructure, rehabilitated drainage ditches and a new, widened shoulder for pedestrians.”
Construction started in January and was completed with paving along Idiens Way and Parry Place last week.
Along with improving the sustainability of the sewer service, the CVRD worked with the Ministry of Transportation to widen the shoulder along Aspen Road and Idiens Way.
This CVRD says this has “created a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling along this popular corridor,” as well as a potential link to City of Courtenay greenways in the future.
“We’re glad to see this new infrastructure successfully installed – and we’re particularly happy to have added the community amenity of a gravel pathway on the shoulder along Idiens Way, to help improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in this narrow and busy area,” said Charlie Gore, CVRD’s Manager of Capital Projects. “We know construction can be disruptive – and we thank everyone for their patience throughout the process.”
Comox Valley residents can expect to see further work beginning on a second sewer trunk line in the Greenwood Crescent/Ryan Road area over the next few months, with the same objective.
