Pride in the Park, Drag Queen Story Hour part of Pride Week

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – A week full of pride and inclusiveness is fast approaching in the Comox Valley.

The Pride Society of the Comox Valley has rolled out the agenda for Pride Week events this year.

They include:

Monday, July 23 Pride Flag Raising
Town of Comox – 9:00 a.m.
Village of Cumberland – 10:00 a.m.
City of Courtenay – 12:00 p.m.
19 Wing Comox – Base Ceremony

Monday, July 23 – Pride Friendly Family Swim 
Comox Valley Regional District is offering a free family, all-inclusive swim with neutral gender facilities as part of Pride Week. This event will be held at the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre (377 Lerwick Road) from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 24 – Pride Flag Raising 
North Island College – 10:30 a.m.

Thursday, July 26 – Drag Queen Story Hour 
The Vancouver Island Regional Library is partnering with Comox Valley Pride  to host this new event.

Drag Queen Story Hour will feature drag queen Miss Vikki reading from her favourite picture books to kids.

“This is the first one of its kind for the Pride Society of the Comox Valley in an effort to support gender diversity and literacy in a fun, inclusive environment,” according to the society.

The storytime takes place at the Courtenay Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, July 26 – Burger & Beer
Prime Chophouse & Wine Bar is hosting a dinner event from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Enjoy a choice of a glass of wine or pint of beer with a prime burger or house meatball pasta for only $20.

With every burger/pasta meal, $5 will be in support of the Pride Society of the Comox Valley.

Saturday, July 28 – Pride in the Park
The final event of Pride Week, sponsored by Thrifty’s, will be held at Simms Millennium Park from noon to 5:00 p.m., featuring a family friendly, all inclusive BBQ fundraiser.

The day will include entertainment and live music, community partner information booths, a children’s bounce and activity tent and burgers and hotdogs.

The special guest on July 28 Pride in the Park will be revealed soon on the Comox Valley Pride Facebook page and website.
