Drivers sent to hospital after three-vehicle highway crash

COURTENAY, B.C. – Two accidents in the span of two hours caused delays and closures on the two highways in the Comox Valley area.

According to reports, a vehicle was in the median near the Trent River Bridge after a three vehicle collision on Highway 19. Multiple emergency crews responded to the scene.

A listener told MyComoxValleyNow.com that the RV was turned over on its side on the edge of the roadway. A second vehicle was flipped on its roof.

A third car was rested on the grass between the north and southbound lanes. All of the vehicles involved were severely damaged.

The Comox Valley Record reported that at least two people were taken to hospital in the incident. The state of their injuries was not released.

The latest update from Drive BC (as of 3:00 p.m.) states that Highway 19 Northbound is closed at the Buckley Bay turnoff, and a detour was set up via Highway 19A.

A second accident was reported to MyComoxValleyNow.com near Baynes Sound Oyster in the Union Bay area. A car was reported in the ditch along Highway 19A.

No major injuries have been reported from that accident.
