Residents urged to have a say on future of sewer service

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – The CVRD has extended its application deadline, in its efforts to recruit residents to sit on a public advisory committee.

The committee will consider options for the Comox Valley Sewer Service as it expands.

Committee members will provide input, perspective, specific expertise and recommendations to the Sewage Commission during the Liquid Waste Management Plan (LWMP) process.

The application deadline has been extended to July 13.

There are roughly six spots available for people living in Courtenay, Comox and the portions of Area B who are, or could be, affected by sewer infrastructure.

Participants are expected to attend between five and 10 committee meetings over an 18 month period.

These will be held during normal business hours.

Committee members will also be expected to participate in public events such as open houses.

The LWMP process looks to develop a comprehensive plan for the future of wastewater for Courtenay and Comox including, conveyance (pipes and pump stations) and the treatment plant.

“Moving forward it is imperative that the CVRD selects and implements the best long-term solution for our sewer system, using a process that generates confidence from the community and other stakeholders” said Barbara Price, Chair of the Comox Valley Sewage Commission, in a release.

“For this plan to reflect the community’s priorities, we need to hear what those priorities are. We hope people will find a way to get involved in the way that works best for them.”

Residents can also provide input online at ConnectCVRD.ca which includes a page specifically about sewer planning. Sign up and share your feedback. Follow along throughout the process as questions/discussions will progress along with the planning process.

All input collected will be forwarded to the Technical and Public Advisory Committees and the Sewage Commission for consideration.
