Free transit service available during B.C. Day weekend

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – Transit users will be able to travel for free next weekend.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and BC Transit will be offering free fares on all transit routes from Saturday, August 4th to Monday, August 6th.

Regular routes and scheduling will be in effect on Saturday and Sunday, with special holiday service offered on Monday.

Special B.C. Day offerings will see one-hour service on routes 1-Fitzgerald, 2-Cumberland, 6-Uplands, and 8-Willemar.

There will also be limited service on routes that do not normally run on holidays, including 7-Arden, 11-Little River and 12-North Valley Connector.

The 34 C2C Express will offer 30-minute service, picking up passengers from every stop along the route.

During the B.C. Day parade in Comox (between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.), the bus will detour via Noel and Pritchard, ending at Stewart and Comox Avenue.

BC Transit said the free long-weekend fare is courtesy of Comox Business in Action, and will apply to all routes in the regional transit system, including those serving Courtenay, Cumberland, Buckley Bay and Oyster River.

Full details, including scheduling, can be found through BC Transit’s website.
