One woman dead at Elk Falls

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- A woman is dead after falling into the water at Elk Falls, west of Campbell River.

According to a report from CTV News, early indications are that the woman was reaching for an apple when she slipped and became trapped underwater. Her husband was with her at the time, and yelled for help.

According to Stephen Watson, spokesperson for BC Hydro, around 3:30 pm, reports came in of someone falling into the Elk Falls Canyon – a 20-30 metre drop.

First responders arrived to the scene, and RCMP requested BC Hydro reduce river flows to aid in the search, which they did.

CTV said the woman’s body was recovered at around 5:00 pm and has been “identified as a Dutch national in her 60s who was visiting the area with her husband.”
