COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – A new General Manager of Planning and Development Services is coming on board with the CVRD.

Scott Smith’s starting day with the district is Sept. 17.

In his role, Smith will oversee the planning, development, building, and bylaw services for the organization, and will be key in ensuring an integrated approach aligning to the CVRD’s key strategic priorities, according to a CVRD release.

Smith brings more than 20 years of local government experience, 18 of which are within the senior management team at the City of Port Alberni.

“I’m just super excited about the opportunity,” Smith told MyComoxValleyNow.com. “I think I can bring my years of experience to help the Comox Valley Regional District and the staff, to serve the citizens of the valley.”

During his tenure with the City of Port Alberni, he was responsible for several large land acquisitions and development projects involving extensive project management, engineering services, and stakeholder relations.

As well, he was the Approving Officer for the City of Port Alberni for the past 14 years.

“Scott’s approach to simple, straight forward processes and effective stakeholder engagement will be crucial moving forward,” CVRD Chief Administrative Officer Russell Dyson said. “Combined with his fresh ideas and effective leadership skills, we are extremely excited to have Scott part of our team.”

Smith said he will be sitting down with the CRVD’s CAO, executive management team and the board to determine the valley’s strategic priorities moving forward.
