VICTORIA, B.C. – The losses are starting to mount for the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.
Comox Valley’s junior B hockey team, which lost 43 of 48 games last season, is now 0-7 after another rough outing Wednesday in Victoria.
The Westshore Wolves built leads of 3-1 in the first period and 6-0 after 40 minutes, before cruising to an 8-2 victory.
The final frame was easily the best of the night for the Glacier Kings, who were even in shots with the Wolves at 13 apiece.
The Wolves tallied two goals to the Glacier Kings’ one over the final 20 minutes to round out the night’s scoring.
A turning point near the six minute mark of the opening frame, when Westshore’s Benjamin Duffin scored his team’s second and third goals of the game just 18 seconds apart from each other.
Chase O’Keefe scored twice and added two assists while Kahlil Fontana set up four goals for the Wolves.
Grady Robertson in the second period and Jacob Murray in the final frame scored the Glacier Kings’ goals.
The Wolves outshot the Glacier Kings 47-24, including 16-4 in the first period.
Going into this weekend’s action, the Glacier Kings are tied with the Oceanside Generals for the fewest goals (12) scored in the VIJHL while allowing the most (50) in the entire loop. The Kings have allowed an average of 7.1 goals per game.
The Kings are back in action this Saturday (Sept. 29) when they host Oceanside at the Comox Valley Sports Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
