Airport Elementary to welcome CFL’s Grey Cup

COMOX, B.C. – Airport Elementary will host a special guest later this week.

The Comox school will welcome a team traveling with the CFL’s Grey Cup on Thursday. The trophy is handed out at the end of the Canadian Football League season to the championship winning team.

School Principal Al Johnson said it’s set to be a very special day for everyone at the school.

“We’ll have an assembly, dignitaries from the base (19 Wing Comox) joining us and it’s my understanding that there’s a team that accompanies the cup and they will be doing a presentation as well,” he said.

“Most of the boys and girls will be wearing spirit wear, you know CFL uniforms, NFL uniforms, NBA and hockey uniforms just to show their support for the Grey Cup.”

He said the school was contacted by the base, who organized the event.

“We’re involved quite heavily with them and we just have the good fortune to be in close proximity, so we get to see the cup,” Johnson explained.

The visit will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 4th and last through to around 11:15, when the team will move on to the next stop on the Grey Cup tour.
