Massive search for missing Cumberland man stood down

After several days of searching the Cumberland area for a missing local resident, a large contingent of community volunteers and search and rescue teams from all over Vancouver Island have found no trace of 65 year old Jamie Sproule. Sproule was reported missing from his home on Comox Lake Road in Cumberland when he failed to return home from a walk back on May 22nd. Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue were called out and were assisted with dozens of searchers, including some from Campbell River as well as an RCMP Police Dog, and two Search and Rescue Dogs from Comox and Campbell River. Over the weekend searchers combed key targeted areas at least three times but failed to locate the missing man, who suffers from Parkinsons disease and dementia. Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue President Paul Berry says a total of 163 searchers participated, and thanks go out to all of them, along with RCMP and the community for their support in the intensive search operation. The search was called off on Saturday evening. Berry says the RCMP will now handle the case as a missing persons file.
