Courtenay’s Haunted Hall supports You Are Not Alone

COURTENAY, B.C. – It’s b-a-a-c-k.

The Haunted Hall of Horrors has returned for an eighth year and has been spooking up support for YANA since Saturday.

Billed as a “descent into madness and your worst nightmares come true,” the haunted hall at 882 Stewart Ave. opened Saturday and is down to its final two days.

Tonight it’s open from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. and offers one final opportunity for a tour on Halloween night (tomorrow) from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m.

When it’s not Halloween Hall, it’s the Wiseman family’s residence.

Julie Wiseman said the Hall started out as a small graveyard on the front yard and a small-walk through area.

Now it’s three weeks in the making, involving at least a five-person crew to assemble the haunted house.

“It’s exploded to two buildings, and also a graveyard, and there’s the front yard and the driveway,” Wiseman said.

Some of the features of the Hall of Horrors, which Wiseman said is mostly geared for teenagers and adults: a handful of live actors, a witches’ room, a dungeon, a scarecrow area, and a little girls room.

“It’s a mixture of some of the creepiest things I can think of,” Wiseman said.

The cause is a good one: You Are Not Alone (YANA) Comox Valley was founded in 1986 by Sandra Williams after her family experienced the financial and emotional devastation of having a very sick child who required treatment at Children’s Hospital for many months in Vancouver.

According to YANA, it “continues to ensure that families in the Comox Valley are not alone when dealing with medical issues for their children and believes that when a child is ill the whole family requires care.”

YANA provides financial support so families can stay focused on the health and wellness of their child.

Wiseman said YANA “kind of spoke to me.”

“Helping kids is a good cause,” she said. “And I like that it’s a local charity.”

Last year’s Haunted Hall raised $1289.25 for YANA.
