Wet snow, freezing rain heading to eastern Vancouver Island

VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C- Winter weather is coming to eastern Vancouver Island.

From Campbell River to Nanoose Bay, wet snow and a risk of freezing rain to inland valleys are expected to come on Friday night.

The weather is part of a weak system heading to the island from the Pacific, according to Environment Canada.

“Winds near the immediate coast of the Strait of Georgia will increase on Friday,” read a statement from the weather service.

“As a result, temperatures should remain above the freezing mark through Friday night and rain is expected. For areas further inland, and those still under the influence of outflow conditions from the mainland (such as Campbell River), wet snow is the likely outcome and a few centimeters can be expected.”

Further alerts will be issued as the situation develops.
