Stuff the Truck raises over $35,000 for Comox Valley Food Bank

COURTENAY, B.C. – The community came together this week to support a great, local cause.

98.9 the Goat FM’s Stuff the Truck campaign was an enormous success, as the team from the local radio station set up shop at the Cliffe Avenue Thrifty Foods.

The goal was to fill a Clark’s Household Moving truck with donations for the Comox Valley Food Bank.

Multiple donations came in, and local businesses were able to purchase pre-made pallets containing items on the food bank’s “needs” list.

Over the five-day fundraising period, 42 pallets were sold. The 42 pallets equal $21,000 in donations.

Rough estimates show that 21.5 tonnes of food, and around $40,000 was raised in food and cash donations.

“It’s overwhelming,” said Food Bank President Jeff Hampton.

“A very warm thank you to all the citizens of the Comox Valley who always give so generously, whenever anybody’s in need. Just ask, and they deliver.”

Hampton went on to thank 98.9 the Goat FM, Thrifty Foods and Clark’s Household Moving.

He indicated that with the money raised, the food bank would purchase more items to build their hampers that go out to people in need.

“It will keep us going, and help us out for the next three or four months. It will assist with all the other donations coming in. We’re extremely busy this time of year, but we’re making sure people get good quality food,” Hampton said.

“Every bit helps. I find that Christmas brings out the generosity with people helping each other out.”
